Taoyuan is a city located in northwestern Taiwan, bordering New Taipei City to the north, Yilan County to the southeast, and Hsinchu County to the southwest. Taoyuan District and Zhongli District together form a large metropolitan area. Taoyuan has developed from a satellite city of the Taipei metropolitan area into the fourth largest metropolitan area and the fifth most populous city in Taiwan Province. Its literal meaning is 'Peach Garden' because the area used to have many peach trees. Taoyuan City has numerous industrial parks and headquarters of technology companies. Due to its proximity to Taipei and lower cost of living, Taoyuan City has experienced the fastest population growth of all cities in Taiwan in recent years. Taoyuan City is also home to 116,000 foreign workers, many of whom come from Southeast Asia and work in factories or as domestic caregivers. Taoyuan International Airport is also located in the city.

Mi Gan

The most representative delicacy in Taoyuan's Longgang area, Mi Gan is a taste of home brought by the isolated Yunnan, Thai-Burmese armies and their descendants. Mi Gan is a thin sheet made from pure indica rice milk, steamed and then cut into strips. These strips are then placed into a rich broth made from pork and chicken bones, usually served with pork slices, pork liver, and an egg pouch.

A green Hakka rice-based snack. The skin is made from glutinous rice flour kneaded with mugwort or cudweed, and has a unique herbal fragrance. The filling is usually savory, consisting of stir-fried shredded radish, pork, and dried shrimp.
